Obituary of Michael Connolly

Connolly, Michael "Mike" 1931-2011 Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday Oct 23rd 2011 at 11:17am Survived by his beloved wife Mary, his sons Jon (Lois), Paul (Jana) Simon and step children, William (Oana), Catriona (Matthew) and Alister (Narinder) . He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Sean, Andrea, Geoff, Hannah, Carol, Angus, Isobel, Grace and Eric, his niece Joanna (Terry), sister in law Sheila (two sons Dudley and David), brother in law Richard (Anita), and extended family in Australia. Predeceased by his first wife Betty and his sister Cathy. Born in London in 1931 he joined the Military (RAOC) in 1948, retiring as Lt Colonel in 1986, having served in England, Egypt, Oman, Cyprus, Malta, Germany and Canada (Base Borden). Emigrating to Canada in 1986, Mike was actively involved in the community with Tax Watch, co-founded Waterloo Region Neighbourhood Watch, ran in two Federal elections and served on local councils for 11 years. Lately Mike was active with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530. Active till his last day, Mike enjoyed sports, especially tennis with his "Wednesday and Friday" friends. He enjoyed travel and spending time in the sun on Sannibel Island, in Florida. Friends are invited to share their memories of Mike with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday, Oct. 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes Street, Waterloo on Thursday Oct 27th at 10:30am with Monsignor Sheridan as Celebrant. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Cremation and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
