We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the Marsh family at Pat's untimely passing. May God grant you stength at this very difficult time. Our families share common origins. I had not seen Pat for many years and she was more commonly known to me as "Pietje". Its said that one person effects many lives and I'm sure Pat exceeded her quota in a positive way many times over. I worked with Pat for many years in Emergency at K-W Hospital.
Hearing of her passing has brought back just a flood of memories.So many good times. I can still see her big smile and hear her laughter which I will never forget.

To Pat - we live according to what we bring to life every day. Pat brought her full self into the room always. She was there every time, with a warm smile or a look where you just knew she had totally taken in what was going on at the time. Nothing got by her. From way back in the 50's, the Jonker and VanderSchaaf families were part of a close-knit church community; Roland was good friends with Pat's brother Jim, and recalls memories of spending Sunday after-church events with the family (including how to speak Frisian.) Although we have not seen Pat for many years, we know many of her siblings, and give our sincere condolences to the VanderSchaaf family in Pat's death.

I am still very close friends with Pat and Bob's daughter, Sarah. Bob calls us Sarah squared. We still live around the corner from each other and live up to vows that we made in the lilac bushes behind her childhood home. Sarah fills a space with her wonderful presence and when she went away to university, of course there was a void in the house. Pat would hire me to come clean the house...wash the floors, vacuum, scrub the bathtub etc. I was always happy to do it, though a little nervous because I wanted to do a good job and she insisted on paying me so well. I never really understood why she hired me though. It looked pretty spick and span to me. Now I think I understand.

I first met Pat as a 22 year old nursing student during my consolidation in the emergency dept. She immediately took me underwing and became not only a great mentor but friend as well. Her kindness, compassion, professionalism, in all aspects of her life, will be missed by many. She always had a candy and a smile for Caleb. Her family was the most important part of her life. She loves you all dearly. Our thoughts are with you Bob, Sarah, Jeff, Jordan and those 3 beautiful grandchildren.

When it came to birthdays, Pat (Pietje) always gave the absolute perfect gift to my children and she sewed together our cherished wedding quilt. She is still giving now, through her wonderful family and lasting presence. May she rest in peace, be at their sides and sew us together.
