Obituary of Millicent Eyre-Findlay

Cherished mother of Jane Gravlev, grandmother of William Gravlev (Rachel Horvath) and Charlotte Gravlev (Stephen Gillespie), great-grandmother of Hugh, Maxwell and Kate Gillespie. Predececed by husbands Frederick Eyre (1984) and Andrew Findlay (1993), son David Eyre (1941), parents Charlotte (1968) and Robert Sadler (1970), brothers Wallace (1919), Bert (1987) and Bobbie (1972), sisters Helen (2011) and Elsie (2011), nephews Stephen (1988) and Jonathan (2003), niece Janice (2011), and son-in-law Peter (2006). Survived by her sisters Toysie, Joan, Pat and Mary in London, England, and Suzie in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Millicent died beloved by all her extensive family, here and in England, as well as many, many friends. She was passionate about life in all its forms - dancing, gardening, the theatre, reading, studying history, swimming, traveling, skiing - she was game for any new experience or adventure. Her true love, though, was people - children were drawn to her, as was everyone she met. She was genuinely interested. Everyone had a story to tell and she wanted to hear it. She cared deeply, loved to entertain and to feed people, and was such fun to be with. In her half-century of employment, Millicent held several interesting positions, including ambulance driver during the war, chauffer to an aristocrat, owner/proprietor of a wine shop, at an artificial insemination cattle breeding unit, and in administration at several schools in the WRDSB. In one of many speeches she gave, Millicent once said of herself: "I have always felt that life and living is like a huge and beautiful lake: some people stay right back from the edge, others skirt it, some paddle up to their ankles and knees and maybe a little above. From the time that I can remember anything; I have jumped right into the middle. Sometimes I have floundered, some day I may drown; but, all in all, I have had a wonderful swim!". Our only consolation is that Millicent was able to live her life to the full right to the end, with no compromises or restrictions. She was an inspiration to all, and will stay in our hearts forever. A visitation is planned for Friday, Dec. 2, 7-9:00pm, and the funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 3, 1:00 pm, at Good's Funeral Home.
