Obituary of Jean Eagle

Jean Eagle passed away peacefully at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre in Waterloo, ON. The family is grateful for the affectionate care she received from the staff there. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty years, Gordon, and leaves behind five children: Barbara (Greg), Donald (Jean), Robert, Ken (Lauren), Wayne (Evelyn). Jean was blessed to have ten grandchildren (Karen, John, Heather, Doug, Scott, Carrie, Gord, David, Alex and Stephanie) and thirteen great-grandchildren. Jean spent her life being the best mother and grandmother we could ask for, providing us with love, support and her own brand of infinite wisdom. Although Jean spent her early years in Hamilton, ON, she landed for a short spell in North Bay, ON when her soldier came back from the war. She moved to Halifax in 1949 and lived there with her family for over twenty years. Jean was a "stay at home Mom" who would tackle anything that role required: renovations, upholstering, sewing, as well as the routine tasks of managing a family of seven. She forged lifetime friendships in Halifax with members of the congregation of Bethany United Church, the Westmount bridge club and the folks in Westmount neighbourhood. Jean and Gordon returned to Ontario in 1971 and settled in Waterloo. Here she reunited with a close group of friends from her Sunday school days with whom she had remained in touch for over fifty years. Over the next forty years they shared many more experiences. Jean enjoyed gardening, painting, traveling with friends and playing cards. Family gatherings, the bigger the better, were the highlight of each year. For twenty-five years Jean faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a long time member of First United Church in Waterloo. Mom will be missed by all of us. Rest in peace, Mom. To honour Jean's life, the family are having a memorial gathering at Wayne and Eve's home from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2011. Condolences for the family and donations can be directed to Community Support Connections-Meals on Wheels and More, 420 Weber Street N., Unit L, Waterloo ON, N2L 4E7 or may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S.
