Obituary of Irene Amy
After a long and courageous struggle with dementia, Irene went to be with her Lord and Saviour, December 8, 2011 in her 90th year. Devoted wife of the late Ross Amy (1992) and loving mother of Ken & Sharon (Ramseyer) Amy, David & Dianne (Parker) Amy, Cathy & Tom Miskiewicz, Phil & Jayne (Hollinger) Amy, George Amy (died in infancy) and Jane & Ron Bender. Cherished grandmother of Christopher (Amber), John-Ross, Mike, Amy (Daryl), Rachel (Justin), Matt, Steve, Sarah (T.J.), Leah, Mary, Josh, Nathan, Jordan and great-grandson, Ian. Survived by her sister Isabell (Bill) Palmer, brother Ron (Lorraine) Davis, sisters-in-law Thelma Davis, Elva Davis, Eleanor Amy, Joan (Bruce) Woods, Florence Amy, Mary (Glen) Strome, Bettyan Amy, brothers-in-law Paul (Marion) Amy and Don (Jean) Amy. She is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. Predeceased by three sisters, four brothers, nine brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
Mom was born in Ireland on April 16, 1922, the fifth of nine children to Arthur and Sarah Davis. She immigrated with her family to Canada in April, 1929 at the age of seven. Mom and Dad were engaged while he was overseas during World War II and were married on August 31, 1946.
Mom was a long-time member of Emmanuel United Church (Waterloo) where she taught Sunday School in the Primary Department, was the Nursery Home Visitor and enjoyed visiting with the shut-ins. She was also an active member of the North Sauble Community Church.
Mom was a kind and generous lady who gave selflessly to others. She was guided by her strong Christian faith and instilled this love of the Lord in each of her children.
The family is grateful for the special care and attention provided to Mom by Dr. Linda Lee, Dr. David Grant and her many caregivers at Victoria Place and Parkwood Mennonite Home.
The family will receive friends at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St S., Waterloo on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 1:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. The funeral service will be held at Emmanuel United Church, 22 Bridgeport Road West, Waterloo on Monday, December 12th at 11:00am. Rev. Dr. Bruce Sweet and Canon Robin Lyons will be officiating. Reception to follow. Private internment following the reception.
