Obituary of Mona Moull

On December 9, 2011, our dear mother Mona died peacefully at Freeport Hospital in Kitchener. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Jim Moull (1994), as well as her siblings Helen, Bernice, Betty, Doug, and Don. She will be greatly missed by four loving sons and their spouses - William (Cynthia), Thomas (Jo-Anne), Geoffrey (Monika), and Fraser (Lila). Her active and always lively spirit will also be missed by her many grandchildren David (Karen), Benjamin, Zachary, Jessica, Andrew, Christopher, Kevin, Alex, Kimberley, and Lock (Lindsay), as well as her many nieces and nephews. Mona was born and spent much of her childhood on Manitoulin Island, living in both Little Current and Sheguiandah. As a teenager she moved with her family to Toronto where she attended Bloor Collegiate and went on to the University of Toronto where she studied physiotherapy. While at the University of Toronto, she met Jim and they married in 1945, the same year she graduated as a Physiotherapist. Jim graduated as an electrical engineer, took on a role with Ontario Hydro in Toronto, and soon after they moved to London, Ontario. Together, they raised four rambunctious boys, and through it all Mona somehow found time to paint, garden, make pottery, golf and curl. Mona and Jim moved back to Toronto, then retired to Waterloo in 1987. Mona loved spending time at the cottage, swimming, playing and listening to music and the symphony, travelling, line dancing, badminton, managing Waterpark's library, playing Bridge and Euchre with her friends, and helping others whenever needed. She was an active and contributing member of Westminster United Church and more recently First United Church, Probus, and the K-W Garden Club. Mona was creative and shared her inner artist with the world through flower arranging, knitting, sewing, painting and quilting. Regardless of her busy life and numerous community commitments and contributions, Mona always put her family first. We were blessed by her vigour and wisdom, and were always nurtured by her generous spirit. The family would like to thank both St. Mary's Hospital and Freeport Hospital staff for their tremendous care and support. Our difficult journey was made easier because of your thoughtfulness and compassion. Memorial visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Mona's life will take place on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Ellingham officiating. Condolences for the family and, in lieu of flowers, donations to Grand River Hospital Palliative Care (Freeport), the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, or St. Mary's Hospital may be arranged through the funeral home, www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
