Obituary of Hugh Lemon FCIP
of Waterloo, on December 14, 2011, after a stoic battle with heart disease aged 84. Survived by his wife Doris Ann (Hood), son Thomas Hugh (Dr. Rosemarie Kennaley), Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Kathryn (Rev. Bruce Aitken), Bracebridge and six grandchildren; Alex, Sarah and Danielle Lemon and Scott (Desiree), Paul and Luke Aitken and great grandson Zachary Light. Son of the late Hugh Caswell Lemon of Millgrove and Helen Rennie Horsburgh Taylor. Predeceased by brothers James and David (June) Lemon.
Hugh's planning career began with the Hamilton-Wentworth Planning Board and followed at the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Toronto. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Town Planning Institute of Canada (Canadian Institute of Planners). At Waterloo University 1970 - 1985, he conducted the internship program for planning students' workplace experiences. As Director on the Grand River Conservation Authority and the Bruce National Park he advocated for sound watershed management and environment protection practices. He was a naturalist and wildflower photographer at his beloved cottage at Tobermory. A lifelong interest in bird identification led to retirement bird carving. Hugh shared his love of nature with family and friends who will miss his enthusiasm and knowledge.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2-4 and 7-8:30 in the Muskoka Room, Luther Village, 141 Father David Bauer Drive, Waterloo. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am December 28th, Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St South, Waterloo, Ontario.
In keeping with his passion, donations to the Hugh T. Lemon Student Scholarship at Bird Studies Canada, designated for the Long Point Bird Observatory, P.O. Box 160, Port Rowan, Ontario, N0E 1M0, will be appreciated.
