As your uncle I am truly at a loss for words broken hearted and in total disbelief that one week ago earlier you and Sandi and the kids were in Belleville visiting me and your grandma and what a great time we had and now you have been taken from us. Ya you teased me but it was all in fun. I remember our trip to Disney when I hit the big 40. You were the type of nephew you always saw the bright side of life even when it could have ended up more serious. You were a very easy nephew to talk to whether it was a good funny or difficult situation and Glenn too. Thank-you for all your love and support you gave me all these years. I know you were delighted with all my accomplishments with me buying the house getting my job at Walmart and finding out the week-end you came down that I was chosen as Belleville Walmart Shining Star of the year. I will miss our texting my phone calls to the garage and looking forward to your visits. My closest friends felt like they knew you and Sandi and the kids well along with Glenn and Karen and the girls because you guys were one of the biggest highlights in my life and I always wanted them to meet you and exchange funny stories and party with us. Shawn, grandma and I will miss you so much but we will always try to help Sandi and the kids cause we will always love them too. One day we will laugh again where there is no more pain and I will be able to chase you around the streets of gold. Something no one has ever seen me do here on earth run or walk. You will always live in our hearts forever. Luv you always buddy Love uncle Donnie.

Corey Phillips posted a condolence

Sorry for the formatting - limited tools to make it look better. Shawn was the second oldest of Frank and Marion Phillips grandsons. As a younger cousin we always looked up to our older cousins. We would go to school and brag about our older cousin's visits. Not everyone could understand why we were so excited to have spent time with them, but they never knew them so how could they know how special they were to us. Some of my favorite memories of Shawn were: - getting cool hand me down clothes Shawn's clothes were always more stylish than what we wore. It is strange to think but the hand me downs were always a hit with me. It was always cool to wear clothes that an older cousin had worn. I specifically remember a Broncos shirt that was passed down. - Cool toys I still remember the remote control GI Joe tank that Shawn had, the pull behind jet ski device, all the pool toys, pool table and some more I will mention below. - Waiting Christmas morning for the Harrington's to arrive so we could see cousins and open gifts Our Christmas morning (until I was in my late teens) consisted of getting up and opening gifts at home, then going to the farm usually for lunch. We always knew that we had to wait to open gifts until after lunch. The challenge always was that the Harrington's had to leave from Galt or Cambridge which was about 3 hours drive on a good day. If it was snowing out we knew it would be later. We would go to my grandparents in Belleville at about 4:00pm so we knew time would be short with them if travel time was longer. It was always exciting to see Shawn and Glenn with their girlfriends. Shawn being 5 years older always gave us a glimpse of what was to come in our lives at that stage. One Christmas that I really remember was one when all the Phillips and Harrington's were about the same size. Grandma bought each one of us a sweater from Sears. All the sweaters were the same size and style but the colours were different. Not sure who got the pink sweater originally but it was swapped around until I think Uncle Garry got it. Uncle Garry didn't think it was pink but "rose" coloured. A lot of laughs between our families that day sitting in the front room at the farm house. - Summers spent of the farm doing hay, picking milkweed, woodchucks & pulling beaver dams On the Phillips farm we did hay different than most farms. Shawn was old enough to run the tractor back to the field so we would break into two groups. Dad would take Jared and Wade and I would go with Shawn. One group would go back to the field to get the next wagon to be mowed away. The other group would go to the pool. We always had our swimsuits on under out pants to speed up the process. We would jump on the Suzuki RV 90 and race to the pool and jump in to cool off, then race back and mow away another load. Then we switched. Shawn and I would go back and get a load and my dad and brothers would go for a quick swim. I remember Shawn liked to run the tractor down the hill in low multipower (no engine braking), just as we thought we were gaining too much speed he would put it in high multipower and allow the engine to brake the load of hay. That is how many a bale of hay fell off and was run over by the wagon. Don't think Gramp ever knew how those bales fell off. Anyone who knew Gramp knew he kept immaculate fields. This meant spraying for weeds. But after the corn was so high he couldn't cultivate or spray. He did find out that the Suzuki could navigate the rows easier so that became Shawn's job. He would ride the motorcycle down the rows picking milkweed. Sometimes we would jump on the back and help out the process. All I remember was the blackend hands you had after pulling a few. Gramp liked the result though. Shawn wasn't sure why it was so important to pull the weeds but he did it. Gramp also hated woodchucks (created bumps and wholes in his fields). Later on he got a dog named Chum who eradicated the varmints. Before that it was a tedious job sitting with a 22 and hoping to get lucky. One day we were filling the grainery and Shawn was monitoring the wagon we were unloading. I was in the grainery pushing grain into the corners (I just think of the dust we breathed). I came out and Shawn was pumped. A woodchuck had dared venture out toward Shawn and tried to make his path past him. There laid the woodchuck and Shawn with bloodied boots. Shawn had kicked him in the head and killed him. Every few years we have infestations with beaver on our farm property. Not that we have an issue with the critters but it is what they do to the fields, they have to go. Gramp had a stiff tooth cultivator that would have been pulled behind a horse originally. It had two teeth and a handle which when coupled with a chain was the perfect beaver dam pulling device. Shawn being the older cousin had the task of placing the cultivator so the dam could be pulled by the tractor. I remember on several occasions that the dam wasn't stable, the cultivator heavy and awkward and Shawn ending up in the water wet. - Motorcycles & three wheelers ATC's (not ATV's) The Harrington's had bought a Suzuki RV 90 for Shawn & Glenn to use while they were on the farm in the summers. This provided both our families endless and countless hours of enjoyment. This was our main mode of transportation around the farm and was our entertainment. I don't remember getting paid cash by Gramp for working on the farm but there was an endless supply of fuel for the Suzuki. Shawn and Uncle Don would come down to play cards or swim. Eventually we came up with the idea of playing chicken in dad's back yard. We got so they were zipping around on a John Deere lawn tractor (dad), golf cart (Uncle Don) and Shawn on the Suzuki. Shawn would tease Uncle Don, the closer Shawn got the louder Uncle Don got. Uncle Don would always veer out of the way so he didn't get hit but he didn't always have a strategy for where he was going to veer to. At some point in the game there were usually trees in the back yard that were run over. If Shawn and Uncle Don stayed after dark Shawn would ride ahead of the golf cart to illuminate the way back home. A favorite trick of Shawn's was to turn off the light, put on the choke and smog out Uncle Don on the return trip. Once the light was out you never knew, Shawn might run up the lane turn around and come back without the light on and turn it on just in front of Uncle Don. The hollering and laughs would be talked about for years to come. Speaking of Uncle Don. We spent hours upon hours on the floor in his front room at the farm together watching videos on his Beta VCR. How things have changed since those early days of movie watching at home. Out of necessity dad ended up learning to weld better. Shawn would have the RV 90 out and would clean the signal lights off the bike, not sure what happened, I am sure there was a story behind each one. One day dad was doing some welding and he asked Shawn to pick up the part. Shawn picked it up and burned his hand (not terribly bad though). I remember Shawn thinking dad had set him up but there was a set of vice grips right next to the part. Shawn always joked that Uncle Fred had intentionally had him pick it up and acted traumatized every time he recounted it. Shawn and Glenn after they started with summer jobs in Cambridge stopped coming to the farm for the entire summer. Their delight in visiting didn't relinquish though. They bought matching three wheelers which they rode up in Cambridge. I remember stopping on a family trip to visit the Harrington's in Cambridge. We had Gramps motor home and Shawn arranged to pick me up and take me out on these new three wheelers. I had a friend who had a Honda 110 but these were Honda 185s machines (faster and had front suspension). We went out to a mud bog and rode for several hours. All I remember was being mud head to foot and having the wobbliest legs from not being used to riding the machines (and being really pumped about riding such a powerful machine). Shawn eventually brought the machines down to the farm and left them for when they visited. It was great because we already had the Suzuki, a 185s & a 200M of our own. Now our whole family could go out on a venture or we had one heck of a time when Shawn or Glenn were down. It was Shawn who showed us how to ride in a gravel pit. Up until the motorcycle we hadn't ventured far from our own farm. The Suzuki didn't have the power or the tires to do what we would do with a three wheeler. We found a gravel pit that was amazing. We rode the edge (in an n shape), rode up the hills & down again and setup up a miniature racetrack. I only remember once being worried. Can't remember if it was Shawn or a friend (maybe it was Frank). There was a little hill you had to go up to go down a huge hill on the other side. You had to hit the small hill at exactly the right speed or you didn't get up and over but the other side was straight down into the main pit area (probably a drop of about 75-85 feet). One of them didn't quite have enough speed and backed down the small hill and touched their rear brakes. Three wheelers were pretty forgiving but not when you did that, it upset the bike which is bad enough but they landed in a deep puddle on their back with the trike on top of them. Shawn laughed and laughed about that incident. - Snowmobiling between the Harrington and Phillips farms As the younger cousin I never had my own snowmobile but did use dads or gramps quite a bit. We had snowmobiles from the early days. I remember being very young riding with my cousins in the cutter. At that time we had Snowcruisers or Snowjets. I remember back at Sager Conservation area Shawn, Glenn & Uncle Garry trying the hill with the old machines. It was always a balance you had, enough momentum - no issue, not enough and you had to keep enough to make a U turn half way up the hill. Remember Shawn having to pull a machine free half way up and jump on before it made it to the bottom. Eventually we all traded and ended up with different machines. We had Johnson's, the Harrington's had Arctic Cats and the Wannamaker's had Yamaha's. I remember being lost south of the Devil's Elbow in a field waiting for someone we knew to direct us home. Shawn and Uncle Garry were spending the time trying to lift the skis off the ground. There were trips to Harder's shack with Shawn showing us how to use the bike with skis on it. - Family get-togethers I had spent a week with Shawn and family when I was about 12 at their house in Cambridge. I remember the trips out to the garage, swimming in the pool, hanging out listening to music, playing lawn darts, target shooting in town with a pellet gun, watching TV and getting insight what being a teenager was like. The times we spent together would be hard to count. Most every Christmas until recent years we got together, birthdays, anniversaries, summers, weddings, motor home visits etc. At these events Shawn always was the center of attention due to the stories he told and his sense of humour. Either it was something that was happening at work or something Frank and him had been involved in Shawn always brought a smile to your face with a story that sometimes would be hard to believe if it happened to someone else. Shawn's reality was always funnier than anything we could imagine. Sandi, Tyler, Bradley, Matthew, Rebecca, Trent, Aunt Marilyn, Glenn, Karen, Rachael & Ashley, so many more memories I could share but space is limited. I hope that some of these help to heal the hurt, bring a smile to your face or remember the good times that were had with him. Shawn you will be greatly missed.

It seems like just yesterday that we were all hanging out at the campsites spending time with family and friends and watching our parents play a famous game called “Lou”. This brings a smile to my face as we all had so much fun and many laughs of course. I’m sure that Shawn will be reacquainted with many of the players real soon in Heaven. I will always remember Shawn as a sweet, caring, and generous man. He possessed as gentle spirit, and there was never a doubt that the people around him, be it family, friends, or employees, were of paramount importance to him.
