Obituary of Ada Brubacher

Ada Brubacher died peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the age of 104 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, formerly of the Fairview Mennonite Home Apartments (Cambridge) for the last 14 years. Ada was born July 18, 1907 just outside of Heidelberg, Ontario. Upon retirement at age 69 she was instrumental in helping to start the MCC Thrift Shop on Lancaster Street in Kitchener, the first one in Waterloo Region. She volunteered there part-time until age 90. She is lovingly remembered by her family of Brubacher nephews and nieces: Vernon (Eva) Brubacher, Dorothy (Harvey) Snyder, Marjorie (Joe) Jackson, Lewis (Lois) Brubacher, Lloyd (Edelene) Brubacher, and Eva (James) Good; Ruth (Maynard) Bauman and Lorraine (Roy) Bauman; Carol (Gerry) Steinman and Ron (Jean Swartzentruber) Cressman; Pauline (Bob Vale) Weber, Doris Brubacher, Maynard (Jan) Brubacher, and Howard Brubacher; Sanford (Colette) Brubacher, Maurice (Hannelore Schroeder) Brubacher, Lorrie (Dan Perlman) Brubacher, and Ross Brubacher; as well as three generations of great-nieces and nephews. Also lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-laws Alice (late Walter) Brubacher and Alice (late Curtis) Brubacher, and friends Sue Brubacher and Pauline Cressman. Predeceased by her parents Menno M. and Almeta (Good) Brubacher, she was the last surviving member of her five siblings: Abner (Arminta) Brubacher, Elizabeth (Enoch B.) Martin, Lucinda (Abner) Cressman, Walter (Beatrice) Brubacher, and Curtis Brubacher. Also predeceased by her nieces Agnes, Eileen and Mary Brubacher, Arlene Martin, and great-niece Cheryl Cressman. To honour Ada's wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. The committal will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church at 11:00 a.m., officiated by pastors Claire Osinkosky, Mark Diller Harder and Wendy Janzen. A reception will follow. Memorial donations to Mennonite Central Committee. The family thanks Cambridge Memorial Hospital for their care these past months.
