Dan played several games of golf in Mexico and John was always giving praises to him even though he is not a good golfer.
John always wanted to play with Dan as he said that's when he had his best games.
We will always remember John for the good person he was and will be greatly missed by all.

For those of you who know John, you maybe didn't know he was a great reader. While spending an afternoon with him and Cathy we reminisced about our famous magazine - THE MIDGET TIMES - this went back to Public School days at S. S. No. 2 Turnberry . The article that we chuckled about indicated that John MacTavish had read 61 books from September to April. Cathy inquired "what size were these books" that you read that many? John and I both thought they were hard cover history books - maybe about 500 pages each!!!!?? Who knows actually it was just that he had won the "Good Readers Club" for that many books. There were other names on the list too, but John had made the top category. Neither John nor I could remember - maybe they were "Sports Illustratated ", but more than likely they were something pertaining to our School work, we hoped anyway - maybe even some of them comic books - doubtful though. Just a small memory but both cousin John and I chuckled about the number. At 9 years old it was not a concern for content, but the number only and no doubt there was a ceremony surrounding the completion………..because in public school we were always recognized for our achievements. And so John's achievements just kept on throughout his life.

My heart and prayers are with the family and all of those touched by this fine man. I will never forget John’s competitive spirit. In our last game of golf in Mexico, he finished Par/Birdie/Par to win our match and anchor his teams win in our annual Can-Am Cup. And all the time telling me and everyone around that I let him win! Incredible! We will miss you greatly John and will wait for you to talk with us in those times and places of your choosing. God bless you!

Cathy and family: I'm very sorry to hear of John's passing. His love of life, family, friends and sports was so evident and so celebrated. He was a joy to be around, even if for, oh, about 86 consecutive golf tournaments, he made it to the prize table before I did. In his own delightful way, he was such a character, and we will carry with us so many memories of John as a wonderful guy, and most importantly, a kind and decent human being. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cathy told John not to eat too much as she was going to be making a 7 course dinner (turkey dinner). Unbeknownst to her, plans got changed that afternoon when she met up with many of her sisters to go shopping. The turkey dinner was forgotten about, and Cathy and her sisters needed to improvise a fast 7 course meal. They came-up with tacos with 6 toppings to replace the 7 course turkey dinner. This maybe didn't satisfy John's appetite that night, but it sure fed punch lines for years to come.
