We drove Nina down to Wendell's home in Indiana once before Wendell moved to Waterloo. He was very hospitable. I have numerous fond memories of seeing Wendell at Bailey's Local Foods, helping me find the foods I ordered, chatting about the weather, or looking after his grandchildren. I'll miss him!

Dear Bonnie and family, may the many precious memories of Wendell provide comfort to you all. Wendell left too soon but made lasting impressions since moving to Waterloo. He was always happy and smiling.It was a pleasure hearing his interesting stories, especially about traveling to visit family. My life experience is much richer having known him. Bonnie and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I remember my trip to Indiana back in the early 80's, Wendell arranged for us to visit an Amish family and have dinner with them. Then we made a trip with the girls to a lake. I always appreciated his time and effort in making me feel very welcome. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Bailey Family,
As someone who only knew your Wendell briefly, I'd like to let you know of his wonderful calming presence. Where ever I ran into him (often madly dashing about Baileys) you couldn't help but smile back, take a breath-slowdown-relax, and realize life is what you make it, so stop and enjoy the moment. I remember Wendell from when I worked at FBCU...He was always a friendly face, and joyful. I don't remember if I knew him or maybe his oldest daughter any other way....? Seems like it? I feel sad hearing of his death, even though I only knew him remotely. My own father died at age 62, 10 years ago, and I can feel what a loss this is for you. May you feel comforted and loved amidst this loss.

Wendell and I met often at the Speak English Cafe. If others would join us we would introduce each other as "almost brothers-in-law" because he is brother-in-law to my brother. That usually gave us opportunity to explain some english family systems vocabulary.

So very sorry to hear of this sad loss. I remember Wendell's faithful support to his mother-in-law, Linda, when she moved to Waterloo and needed help setting up her apartment. He made so many trips, back and forth, generously attending to her needs. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to you all.
