Obituary of Leonard Kaster

Kaster, Leonard Earl "Len" 1920-2012 Passed away peacefully at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener on May 1, 2012 at the age of 91. Leonard is survived by his children, Gordon (Frances) of Maryhill, Donald (Debbie) of Shakespeare, Richard (Anne) of Point au Baril, Betty Erb (Peter) of Waterloo, John Schiedel (Kelly) of Waterloo, Barbara Patten (Terry) of Vancouver B.C., and Dan Schiedel (Adele) of Burlington. Cherished grandpa of Lori, Jane, Kelly, Kris, Jennifer, Bethany, Rebecca, Catharine, Suzanne, Scott, Kristin, Bonnie, Michael, Trevor and Bryan. He will be sadly missed by his 12 great grandchildren. Len also leaves behind his siblings Walter Kaster (Esther), Margaret Reinhart, and Ilene Huber (Ronald). Predeceased by wives Jean Bomburger, Ruth Perrin-Schiedel and siblings Harold Kaster and Ruth Pitz. Len was born on December 19, 1920, and was raised on the family farm near Manheim. He attended Nine Pines Public School. On December 3, 1940 Len started working at the Canadian Blower and Forge where he rose through ranks to eventually become General Foreman. He retired February 24, 1984 after 43 years of service. On January 16, 1943 he married Jean Bomburger who passed away August 25, 1970. On June 22, 1971 Len married Ruth Schiedel (Perrin) until her passing November 22, 2008. Len was a member of Bridgeport United Church for over 65 years and will be sadly missed by both family and friends. Friends are invited to share their memories of Len with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Sunday May 6, 2012 from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday May 7, 2012 at 11a.m. with Rev. Heather Leffler and Rev. Yun-Hee Noh Perry officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral homes Fireside Reception Room. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Breslau.
