Obituary of Bernard Harrington

After many years of persevering with the challenges of Parkinson's with his unique grace and humour, Bernard James Harrington passed away peacefully with his family around him on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Bern was in his 80th year of life. Bern is survived by his devoted wife, Mildred; his son, Brent (Susan), daughter Alison (Bruce) and daughter Lesley (Curt). His dearly beloved grandchildren are: Stephanie and Taylor; Michelle, Shannon, Ian and Mark; Connor and Nolan. He is predeceased by his mother Marjorie; his father, Jesse; and his sister Margaret (Peggy) Bergunder. He will forever be loved and missed. Bern was born on March 11, 1932, in Burnaby, British Columbia. His career with Shell Canada moved his family between Vancouver and Toronto over the years, however he and Mildred eventually settled in the Kitchener/Waterloo area for their retirement years. The family would like to acknowledge the ongoing love, kindness and compassion from all the staff while our father was living at the Westmount Long Term Care Home. We will be forever grateful. Friends are invited to share their memories of Bern with his family during a memorial reception at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Tuesday, May 22nd from 2 - 5 pm. A private service for immediate family will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Parkinson Society of Canada. Arrangements can be made through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
