I was thinking of my dance days at U of W 1967-71 and Jill Officer as my ballet teacher. Wonderful memories of an elegant, lovely lady. Sorry to see that she has left us. My condolences to you, her family.

I was truly saddened to hear of Jill's passing. I am one of the earlier graduates of the dance program at the University of Waterloo where Jill was quite an influence in my life at that time. I will always remember her for instilling such a love of the history of dance in someone who would end up as a scientist at work but always a dancer at heart.
Ben and Michael - you have my sincere condolences and sympathy.

When I was a little girl, Jill taught me my first plies and tendues. She introduced me to a passion that would stay with me all my life.
Once she took me to a performance of the ballet, "Graduation Ball". I remember wearing a fancy dress and white gloves, and being so proud to be out with my ballet teacher. She made me feel special.
By the time I was university age, she was a professor at the University of Waterloo and I studied under her in the dance department. How lucky I was to have her guiding me at both ends of my formative years!
As I went on into the dance and theatre world, we stayed in touch with yearly letters and a few treasured phone calls.
A family friend as well as a mentor, Jill meant the world to me. The memories of her graceful hands, twinkling eyes and exuberant spirit will be with me forever.

Jill was my first dance teacher and I grew up in her studio. She taught me again at University of Waterloo in the Dance Department. While at university she choreographed a ground breaking dance for Janet Hagey and me called Peacock and Nightingale set to an original score by Alfred Kuntz and performed by live musicians on stage. We performed it a number of times including the Bi-National Dance Conference. That piece continued to be performed by other dancers after we graduated. Janet and I have stayed in touch all these years. Experiencing Jill's choreographic brilliance in a piece designed just for us still reverberates and remains a special part of our lives. Jill was a wonderful teacher who inspired and touched so many. Dance remained a part of my life as a secondary school teacher when I wrote the dance curriculum for my school board, taught dance courses and choreographed many shows. Jill prepared us for dance and for life and was a great influence. I am privileged to have known her and to have had the joy of so many happy hours in her school, her home studio and the university studios. My condolences to the family. May memories sustain you and may you find comfort in the fact that Jill lives on in so many people's lives.

To the family of Jill Officer, I first met "Mrs. Officer" in Kitchener when I was 4 yrs old as my parents enrolled me and my brothers and sisters in ballet lessons. Little did we know the long term and positive influence this kind and energetic women would have our family. Her caring nature, ease with children and her obvious gift as a teacher helped us all develop an appreciation for dance and music in a way that opened up those worlds for us with an appreciation that continued in to our adult lives. With her further guidance I went on to a career in dance that richly blessed my life. I owe my career to my first dance teacher, "Mrs. Officer" for she taught me the love of dance. Please know that the hearts of my family members, and mine, join with yours in the sadness of this loss but also rejoice in the life of such a wonderful woman who has left behind so many cherished memories. It is my hope that those memories provide some comfort now to your hearts. Jill Officer touched my family, our lives, in a way that we will never forget. Sincerely, Peter Ottmann (dancer with National Ballet of Canada 1976-1992) Senior Ballet Master National Ballet of Canada

Jill was a very special person who touched many lives. I spent my early years of dance in Jill's studio and had the privilege of having her as a professor later at University of Waterloo. She was an inspiration and a significant influence in my life. She will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family at this difficult time. May memories sustain you.
