Obituary of James Logel

Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on Friday July 20, 2012. Jim was surrounded by his loving wife of 55 years Genevieve, his seven children, many grandchildren and his extended family. He was born 77 years ago in Peel Township and was the son of the late Charles and Leona Logel. Best Dad ever to Timothy & wife Sherri, Colleen & husband John Backewich, Carolyn & husband Stuart Wright, Maureen & husband Gary Askin, Jane & husband Paul Haffner, Bradley & wife Jennifer, Bryan & wife Michele. Most amazing Poppa to Brayden, Kevin and Jenessa; Mary Elizabeth (boyfriend Patrick), Hayley (boyfriend Ryan) and Emily Backewich; Timothy, Andrew, Genna June and Chevonne Wright; Patrick, Riley and Hannah Askin; Olyvia and Thomas Haffner; Van and Max; Joshua, Jack and Georgia Belle. Jim was brother to George (Shirley), Rosemarie Overland (late Al), Clare (Patsy), Laverne (Laura), Alice Preiditsch (Bernie), David (Sandy), Thomas (Janet), Mary Daunheimer, Marjorie Goodyear (Larry), Joanne Hepditch, Sharon Boyle (Michael). Survived by sister in-law Barb Logel; brother in-law Wilfred Mulhall (Lynn) and Aunts Margaret and Kathleen Logel. Jim is fondly remembered by 63 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Daniel. Jim was a dedicated employee of Gencor (UBI). His work took him to hundreds of farms in Waterloo region for over 26 years. Locally, he was instrumental in promoting cattle genetic engineering and the Semintel and Charolais breeds. He shared his love of farming with his brother David. Forced into early retirement he developed a passion for woodworking and created many cherished family heirlooms. Jim's sense of humour, ability to tell an entertaining story along with his outgoing nature won him friends where ever he went including in recent years at The Waterloo Seniors Program. His cheers could be heard at hundreds of his grand children's numerous sporting events. He was a true survivor overcoming numerous health challenges with a unrelenting determination and strong faith. Jim was an active member of St. Michael's R.C. Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher. Jim's Family greatly appreciates the special kindness, care and support of the many physicians, nurses, and health care providers at Grand River Hospital and throughout the Region. Friends are invited to share their memories of Jim with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Tuesday July 24, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be said at 8:45p.m. Morning prayers will be said at 10:15 am at the funeral home on Wednesday July 25th 2012, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church at 11:00am, with Father B. Hayes as Celebrant. Interment to follow at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. Reception to follow after burial at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 145 Dearborn Place, Waterloo, Ontario.
