Obituary of John Snyder
John died peacefully, with family at his side, at Parkwood Mennonite Home, Waterloo, on Sunday, July 22, 2012. He was in his 98th year.
John was married to Lena (Martin) who predeceased him in 2007. They were married for 66 years. He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Carl), Stuart (Margaret), Brenda and daughter-in-law Peggy. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian), Brad, Joanna, Kevin (Anne), Kristine, Jeff (Jill), Sheila, Mark (Bev), Greg (Nicole), Brent (Lauren), Nadine, and Yves. Also his great-grandchildren, Owen, Leah, Cassidy, Addison, Michaella, Bronwyn, Blake, Trent, Ross, Lena, Tyson, Jack, Lily, PJ, Bianca, and Tiana. John is also survived by his in-laws, Valina, Lucinda, Viola, Butch, and Melba Martin.
He was predeceased by his son James (1991), son-in-law Peter (1999), and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Eph and Naomi Hoffman, Elmer and Mabel Martin, Willard Martin, Ethleen Martin and Ida Martin.
John was the only surviving child of Addison D. and Maria Shirk Snyder. John lived and farmed in Bloomingdale for 80 years until a stroke forced him to retire. He was a lifelong member of Bloomingdale Mennonite Church. He was on the board of directors at the Mennonite Aid Union and also the Waterloo Co-Operative.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Bloomingdale Mennonite Church on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate John's life and faith will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Barb Smith-Morrison officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Cremation has taken place.
