Nettie's memory burns forever in my heart and my mind just from one brief encounter with her. I think she truly was an Angel.

Many years ago I met Nettie when I took two down filled pillows to her to be cleaned that had belonged to my parents who were both deceased. She was the most kind and entertaining lady I'd met in quite a while. When I went to pick up my cleaned pillows Nettie explained to me that they'd been stuffed with chicken feathers long ago which had all broken down into.....well....pretty much into powder - they were pulverized. What a horrible mess she must have had to work with. She understood that the pillows were mostly of sentimental value & she worked very hard on them and restuffed them with goose feathers and actually covered them with new pillow material for me. They looked just like new -- and I didn't realize it at the time but they actually WERE new, as she had to rebuild them from scratch. Bless her kind heart, she only charged me a cleaning fee as she knew I didn't have enough money to buy two brand new goose down filled pillows.
We discussed her name while I was there and I told her I totally LOVED her name.....Nettie Baer, it was so sweet. She told me she wasn't particularly fond of the name but I thought it suited her to a Tee.....you just wanted to cuddle her like a Teddy Bear, as she was so warm and welcoming and kind. We never kept in touch after I left with my two lovely new - or rebuilt pillows but I never forgot this lovely lady and gave her some thought from time to time over the many years that had passed. I'm now 66 and I was in my late 20's when I took my pillows to her not long after my mother had died. I suspect that she left a very lasting impression on everyone who met her. I just came across her obituary accidentally tonight and just had to drop in to share a memory. It's so good to see her again, through the lovely photograph of her. I so hope that my parents will thank her profusely for the lovely thing she did for me with their pillows. If I'm ever lucky enough to get to Heaven & meet her, I'll thank her again myself. This lady didn't just make feather pillows, she touched the people's hearts that she made them for.

When I was a little kid,I was sick a few times with pneumonia.During these times I was a patient in Winkler hospital.Aunt Nettie was working in the hospital as an xray technician. She would visit me frequently which kept my spirits up.She made sure I got the best care, and got the lunch I always asked for;a BLT sandwich.I think the nurses felt we were a little high maintenance. To a little kid she was my angel.I have a trip planned next week to celebrate her birthday.I am sorry I missed her,but I am comforted knowing that she is in Heaven where there is no pain. With Loving Memories;Alvera Redekopp

Nettie is fondly remembered by the older members of the Workshop who gained so much from her willingness to share her time and knowledge with them while she was very active with the guild.
