Obituary of Edna Lageer
Edna (Teddy) Margaret Lageer passed peacefully to her eternal home at St. Mary's Hospital on September 28, 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Lageer, her daughters: Marion (Mrs. Robert Vanderslagt) of Port Perry; Nancy Lageer of Kitchener; and her son, Warren Lageer of Hamilton.
Edna had been living at Emmanuel Village, Kitchener, for the past 14 years.
Born in Hillsdale, Ontario, in 1919, the daughter of Albert and Margaret Thompson, she was the youngest of three sisters: Gladys (Mrs. Wallace Robertson of Elmvale); Velma (Mrs. Osler Copeland) of Hillsdale. Her sisters and her brother Bert (of Orillia) all predeceased her.
After high school, Edna enrolled at Toronto Bible College (now Tyndale University College and Seminary) in Toronto graduating in 1939.
In 1943, she married Ellis Lageer just to his posting overseas as an RCAF Navigator. She made her home in Owen Sound, Ontario from 1943 to 1955 with her husband returning from overseas in 1945. In 1955, the family moved to London and then to Scarborough from 1955 to 1977 and to Kitchener in 1977 when husband, Ellis, was appointed as president of Emmanuel Bible College.
While living on the college campus for 12 years, Edna became "a caring mother" for students away from home.
A member of Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church in Kitchener, she served in several capacities including two terms as a member of the Board of Deacons.
During her 14 years at Emmanuel Village (1998-2012) she was held in high respect for her devotion to the
Christian faith and for her compassionate interest in her fellow seniors.
Interment at Memorial Gardens. A celebration service will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 1.00 pm at Bethany Church, Kitchener.
