Pat was a tremendous mentor and role model to me. We met just as she was retiring from Conestoga College, and I was preparing to enter the 'real world' of work, beginning a career in the health sector. It was our shared passion for midwifery that brought us together, for months and years of meetings, conversations, proposal-writing and birthing centre planning - many of them in her home, looking out onto the lake. But during that time I learned so much more from Pat - about integrity, persistence, optimism, patience and diplomacy - and 'making lemonade when life hands you lemons!' Pat also connected me to one of her other passions, to which she again committed so much of her own time - the Woolwich Community Health Centre - and in doing so, she introduced me to yet another remarkable trajectory of opportunities. Pat was a woman of incredible vision and accomplishment, and deep humility - so often she deflected the accolades she deserved, and focused on recognizing and praising the accomplishments of others. She was a 'connector', who nudged and encouraged others to achieve together what they might not have otherwise had the courage or confidence to strive for. I will be forever grateful for the time we spent together during the 'birthing centre' years, for the life-changing paths that Pat illuminated for me, for the 'lived leadership' that she modelled, and for our last bittersweet visit together at Lisaard House, filled with so many smiles and just a few tears. All my love to you, Pat - until we meet again....

To my very special Aunt Pat, I will miss and forever treasure your unconditional love, your warm and loving smile and the best hugs ever. I will miss your kindness and your beautiful spirit. I graduated from SWMH School of Nursing in 1974. I can still see Pat in my minds eye. She always wore a huge smile and clearly had a passion for nursing.
