Obituary of Barbara Hall

Barb passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of October 22, 2012 at Winston Park Long Term Care Residence, just shy of her 87th birthday. Barb was predeceased by her husband, Alvan (Bubs) Hall in 2009 and by her brother, Jim Speers and her sister, Elsie Speers. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Barker, of Kitchener and her sisters-in-law, Lois Wright and Marie Morris of Owen Sound; and by an extended family of nieces and nephews and their children. Barb was born in Kitchener on December 6, 1925, the second of four children. Her father, Andrew Speers, died when she was about 13. At the age of 15, Barb began employment at B.F. Goodrich Rubber Company, to help with the family finances as her mother, Nellie worked hard to raise four children (2 of whom had serious health challenges) on a widow's pension. Barb was a life long employee of B.F. Goodrich until her retirement. She married the love of her life, Alvan, on October 14, 1950 and they enjoyed many wonderful years together, whether bowling, travelling, gardening, helping with family building projects, or working on their hobby farm which they owned for several years with her brother, Jim; and in their later years, helping each other cope with successive age related illnesses and finally as companions at Winston Park until Al's death. During her last years at Winston her short term memory progressively failed but she was still able to laugh and her sweet demeanor was always remarked upon and appreciated by the staff at Winston Park. Barb's generosity, sense of humour and laugh, and love for her family is greatly missed. While she lived a good, long life, we are still saddened by this loss. A private family memorial service will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Barb and Al always supported the local hospitals and other charities.
