Ross and Annie and families This is the third try at this way of sending you a message. If you have the rest, I'm sorry to repeat but I can't tell if you got any of them.... Thanks for including me in several family visits. I always found your Dad's humour and wit to be profound. He was also an impeccable lecturer at the school as I found out watching with you one day when he dragged me into the class's discussions. Not sure that I added anything to their day. I also recall the hat that he proudly uncovered from the field at the Varney farm.....muddy, ripped, mostly rotted but perfectly pulled down over his head. And a look of pure satisfaction on his face after having recovered that long-lost friend. Please dwell on the better times and memories of your parents' lives with you...one can see how proud they were of their children. I hope our paths cross some day, sooner rather than later, and that you'll stay well. Best regards and thanks for the memories. Dave Bastedo

Dear Uncle Bill, There may be some amongst your family and friends who registered surprised on finding that you took on the task yourself of crafting this brief retelling of your wonderful – and wonderfully long - life. I am not – who better to write this final message, keeping in mind your trademark insistence on detail and accuracy, and who more likely to decide to spare others the “fuss” of writing this after your passing than the ever-practical lifelong pragmatist, Bill Curry? Uncle Bill, today I have such mixed emotions. I feel sad that you are no longer in our midst – it is, in a way, the end of an era, one that began with the marriage early in the 20th century of Emerson Curry and Winnifred Sellery and continued on several continents as they raised their four offspring, including my father, your older brother, George. I regret that I didn’t know you better or have more time with you, but I treasure the times I did enjoy with you and Aunt Marg at your home in Kitchener, at the farm in Varney and a number of years later, in Waterloo. When I was a little girl, I looked forward to your surprise visits – I always admired and looked up to you – not only did I revel in the attention you paid me, but you often made my day when you would offer a rejoinder to something my Dad said that you disagreed with by telling him he was “full of wet hay.” I confess to sometimes wondering how on earth you got away with this – it was only in later years that i realized that only you, his younger brother could ever have said those words and survived to tell the tale! I don’t know where we go after death. Sometimes I don’t really think it matters – a life well-lived, with people we care about, is in many ways its own reward. And leaving behind some part of who we are in the hearts and souls of those who love us seems to me to be a pretty decent way of achieving eternal life. Yours was indeed a life well-lived and you will be missed. To Susan and Ross and their families I send my heartfelt condolences. So long for now, Uncle Bill, Godspeed and may you rest in peace.

I was a member of Bill's Crusaders boys' class at First United. His influence has touched and inspired so many young people. There has been no better mentor in my life.
