Obituary of Darleen Clay

Died peacefully at home on Tuesday December 25th, 2012. Darleen is survived by her children, Scott Gleeson (Tracy) of Waterloo and grandchildren Cooper, Chase, and Max; and by Kerri Currier (Jeff) of Waterloo, ON and grandchildren, Tyler and Owen; and by Kristen Boorse of Thunder Bay, ON. She will be sadly missed by her mother, Eileen Clay and father, Darwin Clay of Indianapolis, IN. Loving sister of Gary (Joan) Clay of Frisco, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband Paul Koellner of Kitchener. Born in Buffalo, NY and moved to Wyomissing, PA, Darleen graduated from Wyomissing High School and was active on the field hockey team, future teacher's club and future nurse's club. While attending Shippensburg State College (University) in Pennsylvania, Darleen majored in accounting, travelled with the field hockey team, worked as secretary to the Dean of Women. She received her BS in Education. Having moved to Kitchener in 1969, she attended Wilfrid Laurier, majored in psychology and received her second degree a BA. Darleen worked as a teacher at Conestoga College in the business department for nine years, thirty years as a teacher at Centennial Collegiate and retired to teach again at Conestoga College as a part-time art teacher. Darleen enjoyed life, putting energy into music, sports, nature and bicycling, travelling and art. Her volunteer work included coaching children's soccer teams, working at Anselma House, acting as a board member for Probus, singing with the teacher's choir and Inshallah. Friends may visit at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St South, Waterloo on Saturday December 29th, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A service of celebration of Darleen's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday December 30th at 2pm with Reverend Sharon Ketcham of Unity Centre officiating. Reception to follow in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Center would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com.
