Mary Goossen

Obituary of Mary Goossen

GOOSSEN, Mary Caroline "Carol" (nee Huth) Died in her 79th year. After two months of illness, she passed away at Freeport Hospital. Predeceased by her husband George Goossen, brother Ron Huth and her parents Margaret and Bill Huth. Survived by her daughters Barb and Christy and her brother Dennis Huth. She will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends, in particular Marlene Crabtree and Jean and Carl Wagner. Carol was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church. She spent many years working at Uniroyal and then Sears Canada in the accounting departments. She was embarrassed by her lack of formal education but her innate intelligence belied the fact that she left school after grade 8. She had a great curiosity for the world and was able to travel more in the last few years, enjoying several exotic destinations. Her friendly welcoming demeanour meant that fellow travellers often sought her out to spend time with her. She had an independent streak from an early age and managed to instill that in her own daughters, encouraging them to always be able to take care of themselves and make sure that their shoes matched their outfits. The family would like to thank Dr. Kilmurry and the 7th floor staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Dr. Schwarz and the staff of UT3 (palliative care unit) at Freeport Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of our mom. Carol always believed strongly in charitable giving. In honour of our mother, please consider a gift to a charity that is close to your heart. Friends are invited to share their memories of Carol with her family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church, 136 Margaret Ave. Kitchener at 10 a.m. Rev.
