Morgan Fisher

Obituary of Morgan Fisher

Morgan succumbed to Multiple Myeloma at Lisaard House, Cambridge, at peace and pain-free. The only son of Mahlon and Mildred Fisher of Cambridge, Morgan graduated in 1958 with Honours from University of Western Ontario, where he met his future wife, Carol. For three years Morgan ran the family business, Fisher's Bread, with his father Mahlon. His teaching career began in 1963 when he was hired on a handshake. He taught business at Eastwood Collegiate in Kitchener, was appointed Assistant Department Head at Cameron Heights Collegiate in Kitchener and Business Department Head at Bluevale Collegiate in Waterloo. Morgan's favourite past-time was flying, a skill developed at a young age when he won a flying scholarship as an Air Cadet when he was sixteen. He carried his love for flying throughout the rest of his life, travelling to the Arctic, Pacific Coast, and Bahamas. But above all, he was a devoted family man. Morgan and Carol enjoyed an active and exciting life. They started their lives together on their 1958 honeymoon that went right around the world, no small accomplishment in those times, and carried that love of travel with them for the rest of Morgan's life. His children's and grandchildren's fondest memories are of times boating and fishing at the cottage in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter, and watching his grandchildren's hockey, basketball, and soccer games. The lights of his life were his grandchildren Emily and Steven Fisher and Conner and Aaron Steingart. He was their biggest fan, and they looked up to him as a loving, doting grampa. Morgan is survived by the love of his life Carol (nee Swindells) to whom he was married for 55 years. He will be missed greatly by his son Morgan Jr., son Craig (Nancy), and daughter Michelle (Chris). He is also survived by his sisters Beryl Moffat (Dave) and Dolores Turley, and his brother-in-law Bill Swindells (Sharon). Thanks go to the Romeo's and The Lunch Bunch, who were always there to lift his spirits up. Thanks also to Dr. Neil Arya, Dr. Janet MacEachern, Dr. Louise Vitou, and Dr. Donna Ward. Also, thanks to the staff at Lisaard House and the hemodialysis unit at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. Special thanks go to Rosemarie Sobiera for her untiring efforts in co-ordinating Morgan's drivers to and from dialysis for over a year. He treasured his special time with each of you.
