Obituary of Stephanie Oczkowski

Stephanie passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital after a long and colourful life. She was 88 years old. Stephanie will be lovingly remembered by her son Rick, daughter-in-law Nancy, and her grandchildren David Cyzio, and Sean, Jane and Ben Oczkowski. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 1993; her beloved daughter Barbara (Cyzio), in 2006, and son-in-law Edmund, in 2009. Born in Poland in 1924, Stephanie immigrated to Canada in the early 1960s. She enjoyed her career as a seamstress at Hotel Dieu Hospital and the camaraderie of the ladies auxiliary at her church. Stephanie led an active life, a member of the 100-mile swim club at the YMCA, and an avid cyclist, often spotted cycling down to Lake Ontario from her home in north St. Catharines. She was an avid gardener and a world traveler. In 2001, she moved to Waterloo and was a vibrant member of the Luther Village community and the "Senior Outing" program at the Adult Recreation Centre. At Stephanie's request there will be no visitation. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes St., Waterloo on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Monsignor Edward Sheridan as Celebrant. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. A private family interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines to follow at a later date.
