Obituary of Douglas Reeve
It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Vivian Reeve, age 84, announces his peaceful passing at home surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, March 3, 2013 after a very brief battle with cancer.
Doug will be forever remembered by his daughter, Suzanne and her husband Jeff Kienapple and his son, Dee (Doug Jr.). Doug was a cherished grandpa to Kate, Matt and Noah Kienapple and Owen Reeve. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law, Helen Reeve and Jean Reeve; and by his brother-in-law, Gord Jarvis. He will be also lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Phine Fortier; sisters-in-law, Raymonde (Gaston) Dube and Phina Fortier; and his many nieces and nephews.
Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy (Fortier) Reeve; his brothers, David and Harry; and his sister, Mary Beth Jarvis.
Doug was raised in London, Ontario by his parents, the late Vivian and Wanza Reeve. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario Business School. Before retiring from a highly successful career at Dare Foods after 36 years of dedicated service, Doug's early career years spanned from Winnipeg to Toronto to Montreal, interestingly taking a Voyageur route. Throughout his career, Doug was actively involved in the Rotary Club of Kitchener Conestoga, St. John's Anglican Church where he served several years as a Warden, and was an active Western Alumni who almost never missed a milestone reunion. After retirement, Doug volunteered with CESO and found his placement experiences in Russia and The Czech Republic enormously rewarding and enlightening.
Doug's faith, optimism, and generosity were the foundation of his days, his relationships and his life. He and Nancy were so proud of their children and grandchildren who brought them continuous joy. Doug treasured his friendships and always kept in touch with lifelong friends, Western Alumni, business associates, those he crossed paths with in travel, and fellow Taylor Statten campers. He had wonderful memories of canoe trips, ski trips, fishing trips, sailing, and traveling. He cherished time spent reading, reflecting, playing the piano, and nurturing his curiosity and reverence for life.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Doug with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Doug's life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Woodland Cemetery, London. Following the service, friends and relatives are invited to the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Waterloo Wellington Community Care Access Centre would be greatly appreciated and can be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
