Obituary of Douglas McDonald
It is with breaking hearts the family announces the sudden, but peaceful passing of Clare McDonald at the Westmount Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. After a valiant struggle with Parkinson's and COPD, Clare is released from his ravaged body.
Loving husband and soulmate of Lydia for 57 years. A devoted father to Susan and Bradley. Survived by his only sister Margery Armstrong and brother-in-law Sandy MacVicar and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by both of his parents Hugh and Bessie McDonald, brother-in-law Murray Armstrong and sister-in-law Jackie MacVicar.
Clare enjoyed his garden and worked diligently at it. He was a faithful Blue Jays fan and an avid reader until his eyesight began to fail. Our sincere thanks to all our long time neighbours Norma, Carm and Marie, Gord and Norma for all their help and care. You went above and beyond and it will always be appreciated. To three generations of Whitley families, who have been our "bestest" friends for over 65 years, enjoying travel and many happy and sad occasions over the years. Special thanks to the staff of Pioneer at The Westmount for their care and compassion during Clare's stay with them. God bless you each and everyone.
Cremation has taken place. Together, Clare and Lydia decided that later Lydia's ashes will be mixed with his "Together in life as in death". Interment at a later date at Mount View Cemetery in Cambridge.
A memorial service will be held at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 248 Westmount Road, East, Kitchener, on Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson Association, the Lung Association or Calvin Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
