In memory of my dear brother Victor (Vic) Obermeyer.
Vic was a Bee Inspector and a carpenter. When my brother, Vic first left home to find work, I missed him very much. I was 10 years younger than him. On his first trip home from Kitchener, where he was working, he brought me a gift, which I treasured. It was a compact - I used it for powder. On the cover was a picture of Niagara Falls. I still have the gift and will never part with it. It was very thoughtful of him to buy it for me.
As I grew older, I also went to Kitchener to work. At that time I stayed with my Aunt Wilma Voisin and her daughters. I was only gone for two weeks when my mother had a heart attack. So, I went home to look after her. When mom was feeling better I went back to work. Vic and Eleanor were married and said I could stay with them. I did for a while then moved in with my friend, Mildred Voisin. She always called on Vic when she needed help. Vic could fix anything and he also had a bee hive. He would drive from Kitchener to Toronto with a hive of bees flying around inside the car.
When my brothers Rudy and Vic lived together, they would bake their own pies. One time Pop had a good chuckle watching them. Vic and Rudy would throw the dough around.
Rudy played the accordion and Vic would pretend that he could play the violin. He had fun trying to fool people.
P.S. The bees never did sting Vic!
