Thompson, Marilyn Joan
Passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Grand River Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2013 in her 82nd year following a two month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Survived by her beloved husband Tom of over 56 years, eight children, Carol Thompson, Marshall (Dawn) Thompson, Robin (Bev) Thompson, Colleen Thompson, Elizabeth (Allan) McCracken, Allan Thompson, David (Julie) Thompson, Steven (Melodie) Thompson, 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. Marilyn is also survived by her brother John Lucas, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Wade and Patricia Wacey as well as her parents Charles and Elizabeth Lucas.
Marilyn loved sports. She was an avid golfer and a great curler. She volunteered for the Cancer Society, the Ontario Ladies Golf Association committee, was president of Dundee Ladies Golf and the Granite Club Ladies Curling Division. Marilyn was such a good sportslady…often beating the men!
Friends are invited to share their memories of Marilyn with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be held at 8:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes Street, Waterloo on Friday, September 6 at 11:00 am with Monsignor Edward Sheridan as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener and a reception will follow the graveside service at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall.
