Obituary of Elizabeth Fawcett

Betty passed peacefully with her family at her side on September 28th 2013 in her 94th year. She was born in Port Hope, Ontario on January 6, 1920 to the late Charles Frederick Wheeler and Emily Jane (King) Wheeler. Loving mother of the late Ellen Fawcett, Barbara Fawcett and Ian Fawcett and much loved grandmother to Heather Fawcett-Emptage, Laura Emptage and Tom Emptage. Betty was predeceased by her husband Raymond Fawcett, brother Dr. Robert Wheeler and sister Cecily Wheeler. Betty was a graduate nurse of the MotherCraft Society of Canada and practiced nursing at both the MotherCraft Hospital in Toronto and in private practice caring for new mothers and children to age 2. Betty was president of Fawcett Metal Products from 1976 to 1982 when she retired. Betty had a great love of crafts and participated in local weaving, rug hooking and pottery groups. She incorporated her love of crafts to help teach the blind pottery. She had a great love of animals and children. Betty spent many summers in her beloved Gaspe where she spent countless hours collecting shells and rocks on the beach and enjoying the local wildlife such as whales and seals. Our very special thanks to Joan Cowcill, who cared tireless for Betty for 8 years and to the special staff at Sunnyside Nursing Home for their patience and care of Betty. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Bruce Sweet officiating.
