Obituary of John Weber
As he lived, John died surrounded by the love of family, in his home in Kitchener, on Monday morning, October 7, 2013. He was eight days short of his 74th birthday.
Everyone who knew John was touched by his love of family and loyalty to friends. Underneath that sometimes gruff exterior was a heart larger than life and a generosity of legendary proportions. He was direct and he was honest. Indeed there was not a phony bone in his body.
John was predeceased by his constant companion, best friend and loving wife Donna in 2010. He is survived and admired by his children, Debbie Weber of Kitchener, David and his wife Roseanne Weber of Wolverton and John Michael and his wife Tania Weber of Kitchener. Grandpa (Papa) will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Tyler, Jared, Katelyn and Eillish. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers, Jim and his wife Brenda Weber of Kitchener, Ross and his wife Carol Weber of Kitchener and John and his wife Betty Butterfield of Canyon, Texas and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Loraine (Snyder) and Alson Weber.
John was a huge contributor to his community, family and church. He was frequently honoured and recognized for his efforts and achievements which included induction into the Waterloo County Hall of Fame and Blufton Ohio University Sports Hall of Fame. Through his volunteerism in the sporting community, John has been a sports builder in the Waterloo Region serving minor baseball and minor hockey in many capacities. A long time senior leader for the Kitchener Panthers Baseball Club, he also received a special achievement award in 1999 from the Province of Ontario for his contributions to amateur baseball.
John, along with his wife Donna, was inducted into the Waterloo County Sports Hall of Fame, also received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 from the Government of Canada and was honoured by The Working Centre at the annual Mayor's Dinner for outstanding community participation and generous contributions of time and talent for the benefit of others. In 2002, John retired as the owner of Superior Memorials, which has involved four generations of his family. John was an active and life-long member of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church.
Friends are invited to share their memories of John with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Wednesday from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7pm to 9pm and on Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm.
