Obituary of Kathleen Williams
Kathleen, Juanita, Ann Williams, affectionately known as Judy, passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on Tuesday October the 8th, at the age of 76.
Born in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, Great Britain on December 28th, 1936, Kathleen emigrated to Canada with her husband and her two sons in 1967; eventually settling in southern Ontario.
Like many of her post world-war II generation, Kathleen overcame many hardships including the loss of her father at the tender age of nine. Kathleen belonged to a large family and was raised in her grandmother's home where she developed a special bond with her aunt 'Florrie'.
Raising their own families on either side of the Atlantic, they enjoyed a close relationship throughout their lives.
Kathleen was a generous and caring person who overcame her own medical challenges to do charitable work. Upon retirement, after a full working and family life, Kathleen became an active volunteer in her community. She donated her time and clerical expertise to CNIBC as well as Waterloo Home Support Services. Whether baking cookies at Christmas or being active in her church or helping out at the hospital, Kathleen enjoyed being able to give of herself.
Kathleen had a great appreciation for the arts. She loved music and dabbled in painting and sculpture, she also enjoyed visiting museums and great cities when she could.
A keenly social person, Kathleen liked playing cards with friends and was especially accomplished at bridge. She took part in the East Ladies Bowling at Towne Bowl in Kitchener, and was an avid golfer.
Kathleen loved animals especially dogs and cats. Her furry friends included adopted Persian show cats -after their 'glamour' years- and more recently Yoshi, Glyn's Maltese pup. Kitty, who she described as 'a cuddle bum' and 'lovely', was her companion till the end.
Kathleen is survived by her eldest son Glyn and his wife Kathy of Charlotte, North Carolina and Martin of Vancouver, British Columbia. As well as many who knew and loved her; friends and family both. She will be missed.
