Obituary of Marshall Soehner

Marshall George Soehner passed away peacefully after the Remembrance Day services on November 11, 2013 surrounded by his entire family. He is reunited in heaven with his dear and loving wife of 64 years, Rose (2012). He was the second son of Herman (1977) and Dora (1982) Soehner of Salem. Marshall served his country proudly in the Canadian Army, RCEME from 1941-1945. Upon discharge, he established and operated Elora Frozen Foods for over a decade. He moved to Waterloo after marrying his sweetheart Rose Nahrgang and became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He gave willingly of his time and talents to the work of the church and to the Waterloo community. He devoted his time serving on the Group Committee for the 8th Waterloo Cubs and Scouts, the St. John's Sr. Citizens' Home (Luther Manor), singing in the choir, the Lutherwood organization and to the beautification of memorial flower beds around the city. He was a past president of the Laurel Kiwanis Club and the Waterloo Horticultural Society, from which he was honoured with a life membership. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Richard and Cathy of Guelph and daughter Muriel of Waterloo. He was the loving Grandpa to Eric and Becky Soehner of Toronto and Jacob of Guelph. He was especially loved by his great-grandson Gavin. Loved brother of Tom (1992) and Audrey (2004) Soehner, Ervin (2012) and Gaye Soehner, Dorothy (2004) and Orval (1996) Arndt, Carl and Evelyn (2009) Soehner, Alice (2013) and Henry (2004) Chamberlain, Harvey Gerrie (1986) and Lila and Melvin Hill. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Erb & Good Funeral Home on Sunday November 17th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church 22 Willow St., Waterloo on Monday November 18th at 1:30 PM with Rev. Fred Ludolph officiating. A memorial service for the residents of Luther Village will be held at a later date.
