Obituary of Betty Coney
Passed away peacefully, at Lisaard House, on November 16, 2013 at the age of 87.
Betty leaves her two sisters, Sheila Johnson of Saskatchewan and Diana Levine of British Columbia. Her nephews Daryl Coney and family of Ontario, Glen Johnson and family of Alberta and Brian Johnson and family of Manitoba. Her sister-in-law Joanne Coney and family of Ontario and her cousins in Saskatchewan, as well as many friends and associates from the area.
Betty grew up in rural Saskatchewan with parents Ruby and Harry Coney, brother Ted (deceased) and her two sisters. Betty earned her nursing certificate at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 21 and her post graduate certificate in public health nursing at the University of Toronto. She worked in the sub-office, Exeter, of Huron County for two years before coming back to Waterloo to continue public health nursing in the area.
Betty was an avid sports person. She golfed at Ranchlands (now Beaverdale) and at Merryhill. She curled at Glenbriar, belonged to the K-W hiking club and was a member of the field naturalists where she became an avid bird watcher. She enjoyed lawn bowling at Rockway and Heritage Greens and participated indoors in the winter time.
Betty attended the symphony and the Philharmonic concerts at the Centre in the Square and enjoyed the many concerts performed by the very talented orchestra and choirs.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Betty with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 2-4 and7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, November 25 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow in the Fireside Reception Room. Cremation will take place and a private interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
