My earliest recollection of note, with Aunt Mary was the first time I really remember visiting their home. I was so impressed with the love and care and attention to every detail that Aunt Mary so obviously ensured. It was as garden party, an anniversary of theirs I believe and I was so overwhelmed by the care she took of her entire family, her girls and her husband, and her home..that I actually thought I would cry. Her home was immaculate and stunning (to ME anyway) but then again I was very young.
More recently, while attending George and Mary's 60th anniversary party, the family offered pieces of art work produce by the celebrated couple. I chose a beautiful piece and when I came downstair with it, Mary, who was resting on the couch half sat up and exclaimed..."I painted that!" and I said' "I know, you signed it. I love it, do you mind if I have it??" She paused a second and seemed very clear when she showed me a slight smile and said,"No dear, if you like it..its yours.." and then she slipped back down on the couch as if nothing had happened...I truly appreciated that moment of clarity and her permission to claim that lovely piece of art for my own. Ever the picture of perfect love and kindness..she will be missed..

I'm so sorry to not be able to attend the memorial service. I will always remember Aunt Mary as an extremely lovely and elegant women, full of grace and a quiet but sharp sense of humour. Although I was not as close as I should have been, I will miss her presence in this world.
