Frederick Janke

Obituary of Frederick Janke

Janke, Frederick G. Passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at age 86. Son of the late Harry and Doris Janke. Fred was fond of saying that he was born at K-W Hospital because he wanted to be close to his mother. Predeceased by his beloved Estella, 1985 and by his sister Ruth and brother Doug. He is survived by his children Paul (Elizabeth) of Vancouver, Susan (Jeff) and Mark (Michelle). Proud grandfather of Stefan, Dana, Alexander and Avrya. He is also survived by his brother Harry of Waterloo, and sister Marion Wilmore of Ottawa, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. In business, Fred specialized in group pensions for many years with Mutual Life, both in Waterloo and Vancouver. Later, he became a principle with Wright-Mogg and Associates. He was an accomplished musician. He played French horn and was a charter member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, with whom he played first horn for 25 years. Fred played in the pit orchestra of the Stratford Festival in the Festival's early years. Until recently, he was a proud member of numerous bands, including the Waterloo Regional Police Band, Ayr-Paris Band and the Kitchener-Waterloo Community Orchestra. He was a board member of the Centre in the Square for 6 years. Fred was a lifelong member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Kitchener, and contributed in many ways throughout his life to the Anglican community. Freds' involvement in the K-W community included membership in the Rotary Club, the Probus Club and the Confederation Club. Many happy memories were created at the cottage at Blairs' Grove, on the curling sheets at the K-W Granite Club and on numerous golf courses. Friends are invited to share their memories of Fred with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 7-9 pm and Friday, December 6 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 23 Water Street North, Kitchener on Saturday, December 7, at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Canon Christopher Pratt Officiating. Cremation will have taken place and a reception will follow the service at the church. The family would like to thank Dr. Laura Gregor, Ken Roberts and the Renal Team at Grand River Hospital, along with the staff of Terrace on the Square, for the care given to Fred over the past few years. Heartfelt thanks go to Roger and Ted Janke for the support they provided to Fred over the years. In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to the Church of St. John the Evangelist, noting the Fred and Estella Janke Parish Nurse Trust Fund may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
