Obituary of Mavis Ternent
Passed away peacefully at her residence Bankside Terrace, Kitchener. Mavis was born in Spennymoor, County Durham, England, and was the daughter of the late Raymond (1980) and Carrie (1997) Kenmir. Beloved wife of the late George Ternent (2009). Sadly missed by her children, David (Lise - 2010), Dennis (Marianne), Gary (Penny), Valerie Meyer (Paul - 2011), Sheila Beletic (Roberto). Missed by grandchildren, Chad, Christopher, Adam, Sean, Taryn, Shannon, Rachel, and great-grandchildren, Nolan, Kiera and Calla. Sister of Sidney Kenmir (Kitchener), Gordon Kenmir (Alliston) and sister-in-law Ruth (Niagara Falls). Predeceased by brother Alan (1999), granddaughters Holly (2006) and Pamela (2009).
Mavis married George, a Canadian soldier, in November 1945. She immigrated to Canada nine months later, as a proud war-bride, in August 1946 to a small town, Cartwright, Manitoba. In 1951, Mavis, George and their two young boys moved and settled in the Doon area of Kitchener. Mavis was an active long-time resident of this small community and was actively involved in advocating its heritage preservation. She also served as a founding committee member of the Doon-Pioneer Park Community Association. She also was an active member of Doon Presbyterian Church, Ladies Aid and Women's Institute. She was a very gifted story-teller, and her very descriptive stories of her life's adventures will be surely missed by her family and friends.
As per her wishes, there is no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Doon Presbyterian Church, 35 Roos St., Kitchener on Saturday January 11, 2014 at 11:00am. Interment at a later date at Doon Presbyterian Cemetery.
