Obituary of Howard Conrad

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of a great man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, in his 96th year. Howard passed away, surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, January 31st. Loving husband of the late Patricia (nee Weiler). Howard will be missed by his sons Gerald (Brenda), Allan (Mary), Jim (Pirkko) all of Kitchener, Michael (Carol) of Saskatoon and daughters Donna Lovejoy (Dave) of Cobourg, Mary Ridler (Ross) of Waterloo and Jackie MacDonald (Barry) of Burlington. Grandfather to Larry (Jen) and Cathy Conrad, Janis Kret (Tom) and Paul Conrad (Jennifer), Tracy Lovejoy and Karen Clarke, Lori Ridler and Nadine Ridler (Daimon), Samantha Conrad, Andrew Morales (Carleigh), Courtney Morales (Amy) and Holden Morales. Great-grandfather to Caitlyn, Evan, Andrew and Sierra. Predeceased by his parents Emma (Conrad) and William Lang and his step-parents Marion (Conrad) and Martin Hergott. Survived by brothers Clare Lang and Neil Lang (Peg), step-brother Maurice Hergott (Ruby), sisters-in-law Eileen Lang and Rita Stoesser and step-brother-in-law Jim White. Predeceased by sisters Helen Stortz (Len), Isabel Husack (Doug), brothers Ben Lang (Madeline) and Joe Lang, step-sister Minetta White and step-brother Jerome Hergott, sisters-in-law Henrietta Weiler, Alberta Goetz (Frank), Veronica Lang and brothers-in-law Leo Weiler, Simon Weiler (Irma), Jerry Weiler (Eleanor), and Charles Stoesser. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Howard was a WWII veteran with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada, and a 60+ year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Waterloo Branch 530. After the war, Howard was employed at Bauer Skate Factory and was a long time employee of JM Schneider Inc. Howard was a master in most trades especially woodworking. He was an avid goalie, catcher and fisherman. Howard never turned down a game of cards and loved to golf. He was a member the KW Cribbage League for over 60 years and past President of the JM Schneider Ex Servicemen's Club. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Conestoga Lake and later his trailer at Port Elgin. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Winston Park Assisted Care and the fourth floor staff at Union Terrace, Freeport Hospital, for the compassion and care they gave to Howard and his family. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South Waterloo, on Wednesday, February 5th 2014 from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm with a Legion memorial service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament RC Church,305 Laurentian Drive, Kitchener on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the KW Poppy Fund would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
