Obituary of Robert Gifford

Bob passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on March 17, 2014 just seven weeks shy of his 100th birthday. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 2, 1914, he graduated from the University of Manitoba before moving to Toronto. Bob made the moved to Toronto and Malton in the early 1940's where he was employed by TransCanada Airlines (Air Canada) and relocated to the K-W area with his wife and daughters. He was employed for over 30 years with B.F Goodrich, Waterloo until his retirement. In the 1970's he was involved with the sales and advertising of the K-W Federated Appeal (United Way). Bob was one of the original founding members of the Dundee Golf Club and was an active and proud member of the K-W Naval Association. An avid golfer and in retirement he spent many years in Florida with his family and golfing friends. Predeceased by his daughter Susan in 1970 and his loving wife Reta in 1987. Left with a large void in their lives is his daughter Frances Lavery (Roger) of Waterloo, grandson Gary Snyder (Chris) of Brantford, granddaughter Lynda Coughlan (Mark) of Kitchener, great-grandson Ryan Snyder (Kellie) of Waterloo, great-granddaughters Leigha and Lauryn Coughlan of Kitchener and great-great-grandson Brayden of Waterloo. As per Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment has been held at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. He is now at rest with his dear wife and daughter. Friends are invited to join Bob's family for a memorial and celebration of his long life which will take place on his 100th birthday, May 2, 2014 at the K-W Naval Association, 335 Weber St. N., Waterloo from 3-6 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo.
