Obituary of William Smith

Bill passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener at age 81. Beloved husband of Patricia for 57 years; loved father of Billy (deceased, 2014), Duncan, David and his wife Inta and Susan and her husband Tom; loving grandfather of Duncan Smith, Angus and Graham Smith and Ella Schneider; dear brother of Gerald and his wife Gwen. Predeceased by his parents Anne (Henderson) and Gerald Smith. Bill was born in Guelph, on April 12, 1933. He was the grandson of William Henderson, one of Waterloo's first Mayors and a prominent businessman who owned Henderson's Bakery in Waterloo. Bill Smith started his career with his father, Gerald Smith, in plumbing and heating. His inventive and entrepreneurial spirit then saw the establishment of Roos Skates, and subsequently Smith Energy Inc., which Bill continued to run until age 81. Friends are invited to share their memories of Bill with his family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 1p.m. to 1:45 p.m. A Memorial service will then be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Walter McLean officiating. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
