Obituary of Verna Honsinger

In her 100th year, Verna passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Sunnyside Home in Kitchener. Verna was born on August 24, 1915, one of three daughters of the late John and Jennie Kennedy, on a farm near St. Marys. She chose nursing as her profession and worked in that field until her retirement. She married the late Mervyn Honsinger in 1950 and shared their lives together for 39 years. Verna was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Lillian and Viola, and infant grandson Robert William Honsinger. Verna experienced 100 beautiful Ontario summers and was the last of her generation! She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Bette Honsinger; grandson Dan Honsinger and his wife Melanie with Verna's three adorable great-grandchildren Aiden, Justin and Kennedy; granddaughter Julie Honsinger and her partner Derek Evers; and all those who met and loved her. Verna's family would like to say a very special thank you to the staff at Sunnyside Home. You are an amazing team and have been a very important part of her life. We are honoured to have been able to share her with you. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. South, Waterloo on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 12-12:45 p.m., followed by a service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Fireside Room. Interment will follow in Tillsonburg Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or Sunnyside Home would be deeply appreciated.
