I'm saddened to learn that Dr. Scott passed away. He was instrumental in introducing me to chemical engineering research when I was desperately looking for career focus. Two decades out from working with him, my career remains on the path he set me on, and I will always be grateful for the guidance and generosity he showed a young engineer.

Don was a remarkable leader. Able to grasp both entrepreneurial and academic aspects of the chemical industry, he was an advocate for the engineering education and research needed to understand and improve chemical engineering processes. He developed the structure of research at UW Chemical Engineering in a direction that is still evident. He gave years of his life to the leadership of his department and of graduate studies in the Engineering Faculty. He also headed the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering for a time and made major contributions to basic research in chemical engineering. Most importantly, he encouraged and supported the efforts of his colleagues. Don and his wife Dorothy offered much wonderful hospitality to members of his department particularly in its early years and they continued to do so in their retirement. Recently, Don provided important historical material on how the department evolved under his direction. With his passing, we have all lost a great friend. I am very thankful to have served with Don over many years. I offer my sympathies to his family.

The news of the death of Don has greatly saddened me. I have felt as if part of me had died. I kept thinking of him frequently and hoped to meet him at the next "dinosaurs" meeting. He was my prof at UBC in the late 1950's. Then we were co-authors of a few papers in the early 1960's. He invited me to be professor at UW and we have been colleagues and friends ever since. I will greatly miss him and will cherish his memory. My condolences to his family.

It is with sadness that I note Don';s passing, and regret that I was absent from the last UW Ch.E. "old-timers' meeting". I knew Don as Department Chair during my last 2 undergraduate years at UW, and he was one of the faculty who encouraged me to go on to graduate school, and to let him know when I was ready for a faculty job. When I returned to Ch.E. at UW, he was no longer the Chair, and thus we were able to develop a relationship as colleagues and then friends, a friendship that survived my "going wrong" in the late 1980's and going off to become a parish priest. That friendship continued through to his, and then my retirement, and even though we didn't see each other all that often, when we did he was always interested in what I was doing, as I was in his activities. I will remember him fondly, and with prayer, even though he might not have asked that of me. But hey, Don, it can't possibly hurt!

I note with much sadness Don's passing. He was my first "boss" at UW in late 1964. Throughout our professional contacts I developed a strong respect and an equally strong personal liking for him. My deepest condolences to his family.
