Obituary of Sigrid Zimmerman

Sigrid passed away peacefully on the morning of April 9, 2015 at the Village of Winston Park, Kitchener. Born Sigrid Drewes in Burgdorf-Hannover, Germany on March 15, 1935, she immigrated to Canada to the St. Catharines area where she met the love of her life, Michael Zimmerman. Settling in Beamsville, Ontario they had a loving marriage that lasted fifty years until his passing in 2002. She will be deeply missed by her two loving daughters, Irene Zimmerman (Sam Longo) and Monica Arkell (Paul) and her two grandchildren, Emma and Spencer. Predeceased by her younger sister, Marlies Kuzak (Irwin) and survived by her younger brother, Gerhardt Volkening (Grace). She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, Andrew (Sonia), Christopher (Kasia), Harry, Ursula, Rosie, Heidi, Peggy, and her grandnephew, Michael. Sigrid had a feisty spirit and never backed down from hard work or a new challenge, whether delivering a truckload of pears to the Ontario Food Terminal or facing the struggles of a debilitating stroke, she always persevered with courage and strength. The family would like to thank the loving staff of Winston Park in Kitchener for the exemplary and compassionate care provided to Sigrid in her later surviving years. Sigrid also very much appreciated the love and support given her during visits from many of her lifelong and new found friends. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Sigrid during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, April 12 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Fireside Room. Interment at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener will follow the reception.
