I will never forget Dr. Alfred Brunger. He helped me a lot as his sky radiance model was one of the models I tested in my Thesis. He travelled to Spain in November 1996 invited by University of Granada and stayed with us for a few days. Joan, his wife, came with him as well. We spent a lovely few days, doing science and enjoying as much as we could as well. I took them around Granada and visited the Alhambra too. I still have some photos which I wanted to share with you, especially Joan and his children. I came across the sad news of his fatal accident today when talking about aeroplanes with some friends (I love aeroplanes) I told them..."I have a good friend in Canada. He is a solar energy expert that helped me a lot. He pilots his own plane because Canada is such a big country that they use planes instead of cars for long range distances. Let's have a look in Google how is he now...." then I read the terrible news. It was a shock for me!! I am really sorry, really very sorry, he has always been in my mind, I have remembered him on many occasions. Rest in peace my dear friend, rest in peace Professor Brunger. We all send you our love and respect. Sincerely, Jerónimo Vida, Granada (Spain)

Elizabeth and family,
So sorry for your loss. I did meet your father once, at your house, for book club. I remember that he was quite pleased with his garden, and was a gracious host.
Fondly,
Marianne

I was so sorry to hear of Alfred's passing. I went to school with Alfred and I remember him as being a happy and helpful person. The last time I seen him was at Rondeau School reunion, we had a nice visit and even danced a square dance together. I must admit he was way better then I was but it was fun anyway. The world will miss Alfred and my since condolences to his wife and family members.

We are so saddened by the loss of Alfred at such a young and vibrant time of his life.
Though we were cousins, through distance,, I never got to know him well. I know through Aunt Agnes that he lived life fully and generously as a man with high standards and a loving heart.
God be with you during this difficult time. May the blessings Alfred brought to your life be greater than the tears and sorrow of his loss.

Dear Joan and family
I met Alfred many years ago, perhaps the first time that he hunted at Johnnie Lake with Jim Baleshta.
I had worked with Jim's Dad and we were partners for a number of years.
Every year, I was invited to hunt at the camp and remember being in the bush when Jim first Introduced me to Alfred. Jim and Alfred were doing some cross country march and I happened to be on the route.
Since that first meeting, we hunted together almost every year.
I liked Alfred very much.
He was always cheerful and engaged.
I remember the night, early on in those years, when he decided to sleep out in a tent, rather than in the cabin. It was a vey cold night, but he returned to the camp, as cheerful as ever.
Even though we saw each other for only a few days each year, I always thought of him as a friend.
I will miss him.
I will miss the clever "poetry".
I am not sure what we will do without our "poet laureate".
He will not be forgotten at Johnnie Lake.
My thoughts are with you, at this very sad time.

From Alfred's colleagues in international solar thermal standards development:
Australia:
- Many thanks for passing on this sad news.
Alfred's knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise will be sorely missed in solar standards work.
- Very sad news indeed.
- That is very sad news! He will be sorely missed.
Germany:
- this is really sad news.
My thoughts and memories are with him and his family.
- what a sad news!
I am very touched and my memories are with him and his family.
United States:
- I collaborated with Alfred since he started at Exova. Alfred and I had some wonderful times touring the cities we visited for international standards meetings. In particular, I remember being with him in the belfry in the cathedral at Freiburg when the bells began ringing. I will always think of Alfred when I remember the joy of listening to those bells. I will miss him very much.

You were one of the most engaging, innovative, and humble people ever to enter our lives. There is a huge sad hole in our hearts where you were for a few short but wonderful years since we joined Mount Zion. Working with you on any task large or small was always an adventure! :(
