Dr. Bob Ballantyne

Obituary of Dr. Bob Ballantyne

MD CCFP FCFP It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing of a much loved husband and father on February 27, 2017. Bob leaves his wife Pat and two daughters Heather and Maggie, his two sons-in–law, Frankie Juliano and Edmund Mason and grandchildren Sophia, Ella-May, Owen and Reid. He adored and was very proud of his family. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Margaret Wilson, Nancy Stevens, brother-in-law Dave Wilson, nieces and nephews Kristen, Scott, Alexandra, Steve, Carroll, and his cousin Adele Deegan. Bob was a dedicated and highly respected family physician for over 40 years in Waterloo. He considered his practice at 200 King as his second family. Bob loved Northern Ontario and spent many happy years canoeing and camping with family and close friends. He was born on McKenzie Island, grew up in the District of Red Lake Ontario, and attended the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto. Bob felt very blessed to have loyal friends and family who visited faithfully and kept his room full of flowers, cards and photos. Our family is thankful for this support as Bob coped courageously with a degenerative brain disease known as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Thank you to the Matthews wing at University Gates for your compassion and humour, and to Dr. Marc Sawyer, and Rev. Greg Smith for your care and kindness. There will be a reception on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in the Fireside Reception Room of Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo from 4-7 pm. Cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11 am on Thursday March 2, 2017 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 54 Queen St. N., Kitchener. In lieu of flowers, Bob has requested that donations be made to Western University Department of Clinical Neurological Science, or to the Grand River Hospital Foundation and can be arranged through the funeral home, www.erbgood.com or 519.745.8445.
