I had my first haircut as a one year old in 1987, and Johnny was my barber until the very end of his career. Always entertaining to talk to, very skilled at what he did, and a great friend (and neighbour, for a time, on Stonegate Drive in Kitchener) to my Dad, my brother Patrick, and myself. We were all saddened to have missed the obit in the Record, and would have very much wished to have been there for the memorial.
As a huge history buff, Johnny's stories of life in immediate post-war Austria were endlessly interesting to me as I sat in his chair, and he was always open to my questions about what life was like for him as a young man in that era.
Johnny will not be forgotten by me, or by my family.

Mr V (Chonnie) has always had a special place in my heart. Having grown up without a father he painted a great image of what that was to be. The many great feasts shared with him and family, his wonderful smile and laugh and his huge heart has touched my life. May all the wonderful memories help you, Mrs V, Doug, Mogie and extended family, to get beyond this difficult time. Mr V will truly be missed by many! Forever his "Cho" !

Johnny was like a brother to me. We will miss him dearly. We trust he is happily playing his accordion in heaven. We look forward to some day joining him again in a game of pinochle.

Dear Emma, Douglas and Margaret,
I am saddened to hear of your loss, please accept my condolences.
I will miss “Onkel” Johnny but trust in the Lord that he is now in a better place.
My Father was a good friend of his and they enjoyed great conversations and I believe they will now see each other in the next life.
Johnny was a great conversationalist, he could really tell a good story!
He was very well informed with knowledge of history and politics, and of many places around the world.
I always enjoyed hearing what he had to say and to discuss many different topics with him. We also shared many good laughs as well as hopes. He was always glad to see me
and would get a kick from my long hair. Johnny was my barber, the only one to cut my hair. Getting a haircut from Johnny was a visit to an old friend.
Visits to, and by Johnny and Emma were always special
and are fond memories.
May God Bless and Welcome Johnny home
and comfort you all at this very sad time.
Goodbye my friend. Servus Johnny…
With sympathy
Paul Ortner
