Obituary of John Vogl

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at The Village of Winston Park, Kitchener on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the age of 86. Predeceased by his parents John and Magdalena. Loving husband of Emma (nee Gutmann) for 61 years. Cherished father of Douglas (Tippy) of Brampton and Margaret of Kitchener. Admired Opa of Tyler of Brampton, Evan of Sherwood Park, AB and Hannah of Orillia; sadly missed by brother Erich (and family) in Austria. Johnny started his apprenticeship as a barber and hairdresser at age 15 in Austria. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and continued his trade in Kitchener until the age of 82. His last years of cutting hair to generations of costumers were spent at the Walper Barber Shop. John was a member of St. Louis Parish. He enjoyed singing the hymns along with the 11:30 a.m. Folk Choir. He was also a past member of the Alpine Club, Alpine Club Dancers and the Twin City Rifle Club. Relatives and guests are invited to share their memories of Johnny, during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 1 – 1:45 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Fr. Ray Reitzel officiating. Immediately following the service, guests are invited to the funeral home’s Fireside Room for fellowship and refreshments. The family will join the guests after a private interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo Heartfelt thanks from the family to the staff at The Village of Winston Park on the Trussler and Eby Neighbourhoods for their loving and tender care during John’s time there.
