Dr. William Lobsinger

Obituary of Dr. William John Lobsinger

Dr. William (Bill) John Lobsinger passed away peacefully at the Village of Humber Heights Senior’s Residence in Etobicoke, Ontario on July 21, 2017.

Born in Mildmay, Ontario in 1927, the son of John and Amelia (nee Fischer) Lobsinger, Bill lived through a world of change.  His father was a blacksmith, who shoed horses for the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in World War I.  Barely missing active duty in World War II, Bill served in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve in 1946-47, out of Esquimalt, British Columbia (and later as an officer in the Army Reserve.)

On his return from B.C., Bill entered The University of Western Ontario, graduating a Medical Doctor in 1952.  During his residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto, he met his future bride, nurse Sheila Brady.  The two were married in 1953 and moved to Walkerton, where Bill set up his general practice and they started their family – bringing five children into the world.

Bill’s impressive medical career, first as a G.P. and then a Radiologist, spanned 40 years.  Along with that, he was also an avid gardener, history-buff, curling fan, stamp-collector, do-it-yourself handyman, and, above all else, a devoted and loving family man.   We have many warm memories growing up, passing through life’s stages, in Walkerton, Lake Joseph, London, Waterloo, Amberley and Etobicoke.  We all benefited from his thoughtful advice, support and sunny disposition.

Bill will be dearly missed by Sheila, his beloved wife of 63 years, his children Jim, Mary Lou, Tom (Bernardine Murphy), Ann (Paul) Sabo and Mark (Lisa), his grandchildren Peter, Breanna (John), Claire, Nathaniel, David and Victoria, his sister Irene Tangney, his wider surviving family, friends, and colleagues and scores of former patients.  He is pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Marie Moran, and his brothers-in-law Joe Moran and Michael Tangney and sisters-in-law Joan Brady and Maureen Humphrey.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 1415 Royal York Road, Toronto.   A small reception will be held immediately afterwards at The Village of Humber Heights Senior’s Residence, 2245 Lawrence Ave. W, Toronto.

An interment blessing will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27 at Williamsburg Cemetery, 1541 Fischer-Hallman Road, Kitchener, with a small reception following immediately at the cemetery chapel.
