Obituary of Elisabeth Berdou

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener in her 80th year. Loving mother of Vicky Stringer and her husband, Robert of Welland. Devoted Oma of Rosalyn Stringer and Nicholas Stringer. Cherished great-grandmother of Bentley Dirk Stringer. Sadly missed by her sister, Nel Schnuck and her husband Piet of the Netherlands; Marjan (Hans) and family; Edith (Rien) and family; Nicole (Gerd) and family, nieces, all of the Netherlands, brothers-in-law, Jan Berdou and his wife, Carol of England and Mirko Salkovic of Montreal; and sister-in-law, Marijke McCarron and her husband Gordie of Ottawa as well as her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Dirk Berdou in February 2010; sister-in-law, Marjan Salkovic; her parents, Leonardes Harmsen and Petronella (nee Elderman) and by her step-mother, Tine Harmsen. Lies immigrated to Canada (Ottawa) from the Netherlands with Dirk in 1956. She started her life long career in medical records at the Ottawa General Hospital. Later she moved with Dirk to Kitchener and continued in her field at both St. Mary's Hospital and K-W Hospital before retiring from a private family doctors practice. Lies appreciated all the little things in life and enjoyed travelling back to the Netherlands along with Dirk to visit family and celebrate many birthdays and milestone anniversaries. She enjoyed the special time that she shared with the ladies that she worked with for many years. Lies was an amazing knitter and put her talent to good use knitting for the premature babies at the hospital. Her grandchildren were cherished by her and recently she also savored the addition of her great-grandchild Bentley to the family. Honoring Lies' personal request cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a celebration of Lies' life with her family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. Special thanks to Dr. Upenieks, the 5th floor nursing staff at Grand River Hospital, Dr. Prasad, Dr. Ashe, nurse practitioner, Jennifer Beamer, Dr. Kelly, Dr. Fielder, Dr. Schwartz, 3rd floor nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Dr. Alvarez for all their compassionate care shown to Mom.
