Mr. Bergen, Douglas, Diane and Nancy, I'm sorry to hear of the recent passing of Mrs. Bergen. I have many fond memories of her from Grade 6 (40 years ago!) at Empire and still think of her every time I use my 12 times tables. I can recall her reading "The Trail of the Conestoga" to the class, putting up with my misbehaviour and sending me to stand in the hall right across from my mother's classroom (much to her chagrin). I'm not sure if Nancy remembers how close we came to getting the strap from Mr. Chambers, but it's a story that I often tell to the Grade 6 students that I work with now. I can also recall playing in the school playground after school with Nancy while we were waiting for our mothers to finish working for the day. I will be thinking of and praying for your families as you grieve the loss of your mother and wife. Dale

Dear Bergen Friends, You know how sad I feel to have lost my last Ardagh mom. She was my teacher, my guardian, my pancake breakfast maker and finally a wonderful friend to my parents, especially my mother and to me. (She kept a secret for me all these years. Don't tell your dad she advised me) I"ll pass on a couple of comments from people I told who barely knew her. One lady had practice taught under your mom's supervision and she said she really needed a friend then and your mom was so kind to her. Another from Elizabeth Zeigler remembered her hospitality. I am one of the lucky ones who has nearly a lifetime of memories with her. My condolences to you all. Love, Colleen
